white;\">Submit<\/span><\/a><\/button><\/p><h4>\u00a0<\/h4><h4>What is the Global Student Innovation Challenge (gSIC)?<\/h4><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Global Student Innovation Challenge (gSIC) is an annual event held at each International Convention on Rehabilitation Engineering and Assistive Technology (i-CREATe). It provides a platform to encourage students at post-secondary education, undergraduates and postgraduates level from all over the world to compete one another in developing creative and innovative devices or solutions to improve the quality of living of the elderly and people with disability. It showcases the talents and abilities of these students while providing an opportunity to work with clients and clinicians to develop these innovative ideas. It also facilitates cooperation and networking among the students and gives them an opportunity to listen to speakers from across the world and region.<\/p><p>There are 2 categories in this challenge:<\/p><h5><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Design Category<\/strong><\/span><\/h5><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Students are expected to apply <strong>User-Centered Design<\/strong> process to produce a solution that \u2018makes life easier\u2019 for its users or enhance the user experience (UX) or improves the quality of professional rehabilitation practice. The solution may or may not be technology based but needs to demonstrate the design in form and\/or function.<\/p><h5><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\"><b><u>Technology Category<\/u><\/b><\/span><\/h5><p style=\"font-style: normal; text-align: justify;\">Students are expected to apply principles in <strong>Engineering and\/or Information Technology<\/strong> to design and implement Assistive &amp; Rehabilitative Technology solution to address the issues\/problems faced by the needy, their caregivers and clinicians. The solution must have engineering or technological component(s).<\/p><hr \/><h4><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Competition Requirements<\/span><\/h4><ul><li>This challenge is open to\u00a0<strong>post-secondary education, undergraduates and postgraduates\u00a0<\/strong>of any discipline. These include Universities, Polytechnics and Institutes of Technical Education students. Submissions are invited from all students at all stages of their academic studies mentioned above.<\/li><li>There is no limit to the number of teams that may compete from any given academic institution and collaborations between institutions are allowed. Each team consists\u00a0<strong>up to 5 members\u00a0<\/strong>(students only). For the information of the registration fee per team and teachers \/ lecturers who accompany a team, please visit the website.<\/li><li>Entries submitted should not exceed two years of development. All participants must provide proof that they are students at the time of work for the challenge was conducted.<\/li><li>Successful teams will be required to prepare presentations on virtual platform (Please refer details in competition guideline).<\/li><li>Selected teams will be notified by emails and are required to register for<strong>\u00a0i-CREATe 2022.<\/strong><\/li><\/ul><h4><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Competition Guidelines<\/span><\/h4><ol><li style=\"text-align: justify;\">The teams will submit the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/www6.rs.polyu.edu.hk\/icreate\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/gSIC-Entry-Form_2022_220430.docx\">gSIC 2022 Entry Form<\/a><\/span> by the team leader and send the form to <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">gsic.icreatehk@polyu.edu.hk\u00a0<\/span><\/li><li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Expert reviewers will evaluate submissions to be selected to attend the Global Student Innovation Challenge (gSIC) at\u00a0<strong>i-CREATe 2022<\/strong>. Selected teams will be informed by email on or before 30 July 2022.<\/li><li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Selected teams must register to attend the i-CREATe 2022 and they are entitled to attend all activities of the conference virtually or onsite.<\/li><li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Selected teams will be expected to attend the gSIC virtually with videos presenting their design and innovation. Two videos are required for the final competition, one for oral presentation, one for prototype demonstration. The maximum length of the video for oral presentation is 8 minutes, and the maximum length of prototype demonstration video is 5 minutes<u>.<\/u><\/li><li>Please record your\u00a0oral presentation\u00a0video using the broadcasting software such as the PowerCam\/EverCam<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">\u00a0(The speaker&#8217;s screen should be placed at the lower right corner of the screen).<\/span> While there is no special rule for recording the prototype demonstration video. The two videos have to be stored in the format of\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">mp4<\/span>\u00a0and need to be uploaded to the website by the team leader. <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">The website will be opened for uploading videos on 8 to 17 August 2022 and latest at 23:59 on 17 August 2022.<\/span><\/li><li>The Judging Panel will view the videos and meet the selected teams during an online <strong>Q&amp;A session on 26 August 2022<\/strong>. Each team must become familiar with its use.<\/li><li>All team members must log in to the meeting room 10 minutes before the scheduled time and they will be in the waiting room.<\/li><li>Please use display name starting with your team number such as D1-Leaderyour name, D1-member-your name.<\/li><li>In the waiting room, your identity will be verified by the gSIC Administrative Office. If there are any inconsistency with the identity of the team application form, the team will be disqualified.<\/li><li>The Q&amp;A session will last 10 minutes, and a bell will ring at 9 minutes, and the team will be withdrawn from the meeting at the end of the 10-minute session.<\/li><li>During the Q&amp;A session, if answers require further clarification through a presentation, please use the share screen function in Zoom to explain.<\/li><li>The team must turn on the web camera while the Q&amp;A session is in progress and throughout the entire Q&amp;A session.<\/li><li>Team Q&amp;A session follows list style questions and answers format, where all questions shall be asked by the Judges prior to the Team\u2019s full answer. If there is time remains at end of the team\u2019s full answer, more questions and answers may follow.<\/li><li>If the team fails to enter the Meeting Room at the scheduled time, absolute time calculations will remain in effect.
